People eat to sustain life. Food therefore serves the basic needs of life.

In the industrialized world and in countries considered as emerging markets, food functions both to sustain life as well as enjoy life. Foods in society should be nutritious but it should also act as a sociopsychological and cultural food-for-the-soul.

All safe foods are foods but not all foods are safe foods. The FDA provides several useful sites for better understanding important foods or food components to ensure both nutrition & food safety.
